STIRLING LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS WERE HELD ON 3 MAY 2012
A Labour / Conservative alliance running Stirling Council. - The whirring noise you hear is Keir Hardie spinning in his grave.
Despite the SNP increasing its share of the vote by 8%, increasing the number of councillors by two, and being the largest party, it has no say in the running of the council.
Vote Labour - Get Tory
Statement from Cllr. Graham Houston.
STIRLING SNP CONDEMN DIRTY LABOUR / TORY DEAL
Leader of the SNP group on Stirling Council has expressed his amazement and disappointment at news that the Tories will make a formal coalition with Labour on Stirling Council.
Commenting, Councillor Houston said: “The people of Stirling will be shocked at news that the Tories and Labour will get together to form an Administration on Stirling Council, despite neither party being the biggest party after Thursday’s election.
“After years of Labour domination in Stirling, the past four years have seen an SNP minority Administration prepared to work on a cross-party basis to deliver real progress for the people of Stirling. We were prepared to continue to work on this basis, and offered consensus and compromise to both Labour and the Tories.
“However, Labour’s desire for power at all costs has seen them lure this hapless Tory group, and we await details of how cheaply they have been bought off.
“The dead hand of Labour will grip the levers of power in Stirling once again. The real losers will be the people of the Stirling Council area, who after rejecting Labour at the ballot box will nonetheless see Labour entrenched at the helm of Stirling Council.
"The people of Stirling will rightly feel betrayed by this treacherous Labour / Tory alliance.”
